NAMA

National Automatic Merchandising Association

“NAMA is the national trade association of the food and refreshment vending, coffee service and foodservice management industries including on-site, commissary, catering and mobile. Its membership is comprised of service companies, equipment manufacturers and suppliers of products and services to operating service companies. The basic mission of the association, to collectively advance and promote the automatic merchandising and coffee service industries, still guides NAMA today as it did in 1936, the year of the organization’s founding.”

the first Academy Awards ceremony was held 80 years ago today, by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, “a professional organization dedicated to advancing the art and technology of filmmaking”, the event was hosted at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel,
Wings was awarded “Outstanding Picture” & Sunrise was awarded “Unique & Artistic Picture”, 2 uncategorized awards were given to Charles Chaplin’s The Circus as well as The Jazz Singer produced by Warner Bros.

also referred to as “The Oscars” (a name the trophies were officially dubbed with 10 years later) the Academy Awards continue to be held annually in the U.S.A., for more information check out: http://oscars.com/ & http://www.oscars.org/

True Travellers Society

a website I became a member of a few years ago: http://www.truetravellers.org/

in the words of an Administrator of the site:

“Frustrated by the “volunteer in Asia, volunteer in Africa, volunteer in South or Central America, but first pay us lots of money” opportunities? We are too.
Our organization is a network of individuals that share information about no or minimal fee meaningful travel and volunteer travel opportunities around the globe. These opportunities can include anything from volunteering at an orphanage, to a festival, to wildlife conservation to you name it.”

it’s a worthy online forum, though I haven’t often found myself active there, I get a little frustrated with the interface of the website from time to time, & to this day I have not been able to use the little blog function that is supposed to be integrated into my profile there

FFRF

The Freedom From Religion Foundation, as quoted on their website, http://www.ffrf.org/ , “… with more than 13,000 members, is the largest association of freethinkers (atheists and agnostics) in the United States [of America].”

I really like the newspaper they publish, Freethought Today, which I’ve been an on & off subscriber to, when I can afford it. The website offers “Freethought Of The Day” which usually notes the birthdays of wellknown atheists, agnostics, or freethinkers with short bios and quotes.

They also have a radio talk show, conventions, student essay competitions, etc. & help fund legal battles to uphold the separation of church & state, as well as put up billboards, & go on other advertising campaigns.

Freethought Hall in Madison, Wisconsin, U.S.A. holds the national offices for the organization, FFRF is a non-profit tax-exempt organization.

International Listening Association

an organization which has been around for 30 years now
