was born 200 years ago today
in Kentucky, U.S.A.
he was the 16th president of the U.S.A., serving from March 4, 1861 – April 15, 1865 as such, & as a politician for the Republican Party (& briefly, National Union Party)
the U.S.A. endured it’s Civil War during his term
he had the nickname “Honest Abe” and was also a lawyer, he had also served in the House Of Representatives in Congress
he was the first U.S.A. President to be assassinated, and he was assassinated while in office by John Wilkes Booth while at Ford’s Theatre, attending a performance of Our American Cousin
on a sidenote, there had been a plot at the time to assassinate several high ranking politicians in the U.S.A., carried out by different people, but this was the only part of the plan that seems to have prevailed
it is the profile of Abraham Lincoln that is on the front of the penny of U.S.A. currency, and if a person looks really close at the back, one can see the statue of him between the columns of the Lincoln Memorial which is detailed on that side of the coin
